Nehalem Xeon Processors servers and workstations

After the official presentation of the first three Bloomfield processors based on the new Nehalem microarchitecture, Intel plans to launch Xeon workstations and servers dedicated to the sector during the first quarter of 2009.

The Xeon processor, known by the codename Gainestown, motherboards will be proposed for single and double sockets.

Like the version for desktop systems, including Xeon CPUs are compatible with the LGA 1366, all but the Xeon X5502, consist of four core monolithic.

The various models differ in the type of DDR3 memory supported (800, 1066 or 1333 MHz), the amount of L3 cache and the bandwidth of the link QPI (QuickPath Interconnect).

Processors that integrate a controller for three-channel DDR3-800 is absent implemementazione Hyper-Threading technology (HT) and Turbo Mode (TM).

The Xeon 3500 (single socket) and 5500 (two sockets) of course will require new chipsets and new cooling systems.
