Intel Ivy Bridge is the evolution of Sandy Bridge

Ivy Bridge is the evolution of the architecture codenamed Sandy Bridge developed by Intel for its processors, unlike the first generation that is based on 32 nm manufacturing process, Ivy Bridge will be a die-shrink to 22 nm.

At the moment, it is expected that the arrival of the first market-based processors that evolution takes place between late 2011 and early 2012, going to occupy all areas of the market, desktop, mobile and server. It soon became very likely slip a few months of that date, taking into account that the former Sandy Bridge is already reached with a slight delay as it was originally announced in March 2011 but new information would indicate the intention to respect the arrival of Intel of new solutions by the end of the year.

Besides Ivy Bridge Intel also announced plans to invest between 6 and 8 billion dollars in adapting the production facilities for the holding of future CPU architecture-based Ivy Bridge. Specifically, the two plants will be increased in Arizona and a new one will be built in Oregon.
Being a "downsizing" Sandy Bridge architecture and not of his successor, Ivy Bridge will see his project very similar to that of the latter, but also introducing some internal audits, including the new 22 nm manufacturing process made possible thanks to the 3D transistor.
