The high-end market is dominated by Intel processors with Core i7 900 series models, socket LGA 1366. If you have money and want to build a high performance, overclocking the Core i7 950 is the best choice. The passionate users which do have the real need for a six-core processor may opt for the Core i7 970 - even if it costs over 700 euros.

In the mainstream the battle is more intense. This competition has a direct effect on prices much more affordable. The quad-core i5 760, for example, costs less than $ 200, and is a very interesting choice. This also applies to the Phenom II X6 1075T six-core.

AMD has captured the hearts of fans long ago with overclocking Black Edition processors, Intel has sold more recently a couple of K-series models, offering consumers CPU with unlocked multiplier, the typical price range Extreme Edition high.

Intel today introduced Sandy Bridge Core architecture evolution, and inaugurates the new processors with mid-range models. Solutions based on 2011 LGA interface for true fans will come in the second half of this year.
